since the orange man assassination attempt on 13 july 2024, a LOT of people are posting really stupid shit online and ultimately losing their jobs. something along the lines of "GET A BETTER SCOPE" or tiktok videos etc. this is extremely edgy; could be considered tacky, even.
libs of tiktok (POWERWORD: Chaya Raichik) has been reposting what they wrote and tagging their employer. some consider this doxing. to me, it is a very gray area. as long as LoTT is not posting their irl address or phone number or SSN or whatever, not doxing.
doxing is, according to wikipedia (lol), "the act of publicly providing personally identifiable information about an individual or organization, usually via the Internet and without their consent."
the ones in public roles - nurses, firefighters, cops, govt officials - they are fair game. there is no expectation of privacy if you work for the public. sorry, thems the rules.
some rando dickhead saying stupid shit on facebook or twitter or wherever? as long as it's not illegal and the last time i checked, talking shit is not illegal. it looks very very bad, but not illegal. however, the stupid shit they want to post may be against the TOS of that particular platform. shrug.
not saying stupid shit online will not cost you your job. almost every company on the planet does not want the bad publicity and will one billion percent let you go if they get a whiff of you, random employee, talking shit with your nametag on.
it's a lot like using your work truck and driving like a fuckwad. at that point, you represent [company]. even if you're off the clock. even if what you said, in your opinion, was just talking shit online. the employer will not see it that way.
if you're in the USA, is your first amendment being trampled by [platform] and [company] giving you the axe? unfortunately, no. 1A only applies to talking about the govt and retaliation from said govt. [platform] and [company] policies still remain.
i know there has been a lot of lefties cancelling others for questioning [current thing] for a long, long time; it's a shitty situation. a lot of people on the right have now began using those same tactics as revenge or tit-for-tat and, while it sucks, is the pendulum swinging back super hard and super fast.
just remember, while considered untactful, talking shit is not illegal. the platform you're on or your employer may/will not consider your shit talking to be within their policies and may/will let you go.
