so i'll share the OG xbox softmod. it's never been easier, unironically.

• original xbox - look at your local game trade-in place, don't pay any more than $40. 50 if it has all the cords and a controller. you might even have an old one in a box somewhere.

• ancient 128/256/512 MB (not GB) flash drive. you probably have one in a drawer somewhere. (aliexpress | amazon)

• Female USB to Xbox adapter ~ $8USD

• (optional) IDE to SATA adapter ~ $20USD

• 500GB IDE or (optional) SATA drive. i would imagine a 256gb 2.5" ssd would be fine

• xbox softmod tool

• FATXplorer

• vimm's for isos

• (MISC) extra crap like gpu heatsinks and 80 wire IDE cables

the house i'm in was built in the 40s or 50s. a conventional, raised foundation of about one or two feet. beyond a small wooden door panel with a latch, it's exposed to the outside. all manners of bugs and creatures lie in wait. there's no amount of money in the universe that could convince me to go under there.

at some point in the home's past, it was renovated clearly by a DIY guy. there are places where cabinets should meet the wall seamlessly, and be sealed, but they do not. gaps big enough for la creaturas of the night to sneak in.

the foundation is super fucked up too. during hurricane katrina, a tree fell onto the roof, shifting the entire house. there are large cracks and buckles in the drywall. not enough to break fully, but large enough to see. warpy subfloor sections.

all of this to say, the current kitchen was added as a diy afterthought. there are places which are exposed to the dirty underbelly.

i bought a large cream cheese danish from a bakery last week and was able to eat one single section. the next day ants invaded. didn't figure out what they were coming for until the workers had taken a good bit of it back to the pile. got rid of my fuckin danish and they disappeared a day or two later. still get a straggler here and there, but absolutely nothing like it was - a straight line of ants from an uncaulked windowsill and the cabinet.

if someone were to purchase the place, it would be in their best interest to raze and start over.
