Business this past year has been the worst ever I have ever experienced. Many of the clients that I did have have either cut back on spending or went out of business. A business partner who quite honestly wasn't feeling the field and just completely lost (business wise) on where to go from here. I would pan out ideas only to get shot down over and over with him. I pretty much during the summer decided I would go off on my own at this point in time since he clearly lacks the discipline to work on the business and would rather spend all his waking time with his family. I can't fault him on that but it kind of leaves me in a hot spot in the process. Due to a lot of down time I experienced a renewed appreciation for the outdoors and working with my hands on the house. While I never got around to building my garden empire this year, I'll prob start this coming year in building up the garden like it was when I was kid. Family wise, we're all good. We experienced most of our hardships and trials way back decades ago when I was kid so something like the lock downs was pretty trivial when compared to 10 year old me. This year, I'm also glad to see a friend was saved from the far leftist cult that plaques Canada and has taken a more humble approach to things political and it has made our relationship the way like it was back in high school. All in all, this past year has been somewhat hard but I have a renewed appreciation for the small things. |

wife got an 8mm kidney stone removed on friday. so what had done happened wuz the stone, because it was so large, got lodged into the urethral tube wall and dug in causing an infection pocket where it chilled for god knows how long. here's a picture: ![]() after its removal, they left in a stent - a surgical tube that goes from the bladder to the kidneys - for a month to allow natural healing. we're on day three. overall, she feels much much better. there's still the up and down from the normal overall issue, but that's to be expected. additionally, her family never reached out to me or her the day of the extraction to check on how she's doing. we have opted to not answer. it's petty, yes, but the family wasted zero time to congratulate her brother and his wife to celebrate their second child in less than two years. they talk some good shit on facebook regarding family and being blessed and their children/grandchildren and foreign exchange students and all that. however, when we are at their house in person, 4 states/500 miles away, get either of them into a one-on-one situation, they act as if wife and i did not exist. instead of talking and acknowledging we're there, it's time to dick off on facebook or zone out into the tv. so it's whatever at this point. [e: 2:36pm] her mother just now reached out to check on her. not two days ago. not leading up to. neat. [e: 2:49pm] wife responded saying she was hurt no one reached out. her mother immediately responded saying she expected a phone call the day of and she's been thinking of her. thoughts and prayers. thank god i'm on antidepressants lmao have some music: tonight is the last night of 2023. thank god. |

22.December.2023 17:09 | soc | How I do Home Servers Now - I need help kill me |
I basically install Debian (current latest stable version) and pick Cinnamon as my desktop environment. I'll then get X11RDP working since it just works and I'm not a huge fan of VNC. For here, I'll decide if I want Jellyfin to be installed on the host machine or done in a container environment. I've always chosen the host machine since I tend to get better performance. Then, I'll go and do the whole QEMU/KVM install with Virt-Manager as my go to for virtual machines. Currently I have just two virtual environments running. My first one is my Bittorrent VM for "linux distos" which uses XFCE desktop to keep it somewhat light. In that environment, I have all my VPN stuff setup so I keep it separate from the host machine. Once logged in, everything auto connects and starts right up. My last VM, I have a min install of Debian with NextCloud which is currently used as my bookmark sync server. Since I switch between Windows and Linux on my current daily driver, this is a great way to keep everything tidy. Whichever browser I intend to setup I’ll install an extension called FLOCCUS which can then log into Nextcloud and either SAVE my current bookmarks or SYNC AND DOWNLOAD THEM from the server. Currently I am saving everything from my Windows install and then sycing them in Linux when I switch over since I tend to stay in Windows more, for the time being. I am currently in the process of getting a VM up with Docker and Portainer setup to see how well performance is on it on my old i5 when compared my Raspberry 3B+. Mostly will setup home assistant on it and get all my lights and other thing sync with it so I can do things with it again. I need help, please kill me. ![]() |

• handbrake_custom_presets2.zip ![]() mostly, they're for re-encoding from x265 to x264 with either MKV or MP4 container. some jellyfin clients are smarter than others. x264/aac plays on everything, so i try to either download them like that or i'll re-encode as needed. |
20.December.2023 20:19 | soc | Bright Light! Bright Light! |
This week thus far has been fun! Monday my jaw was sore from the way I slept (I guess) so I took 2 Advil only have a swollen cheek the size of a golf ball a few hours later. Since then it's been a headache around the eyes and ANY type of bright light triggers my stomach to bring up in what I had for the day. This went into bringing the contents of what breaks down the food from my stomach up once there was nothing left to bring up. The worst part of this is that I still have this bloody headache around my eyes and I really can't take anything for it since well... I dunno if I'm allergic to said contents and a visit to the doctors office at this time of year is a minefield, not happening. I have a small bag of crispers here to try out as the first I've eaten since Sunday night, I got my priorities straight. |

from 08DEC to 11DEC, wife and i went to new orleans. stayed at this quaint B&B on prytania street. the listing on expedia was a tad bit misleading. the house was clearly old as fuck and is in dire need of renovation, but the room was clean and it was extremely quiet; we left our car parked on the street for three days. i would imagine it's a great place to stay if you're just needing a bed and a shower, like you were in nola for mardi gras. price was far less than any hotel in the area and there was a nfl game. court had never attended a pro football game or gone to dave & busters. we did both on sunday.
